Lansdowne is one of the quietest and nearest hill station from Delhi (245 kms). Lansdowne is well connected with motorable roads but remote in its own way. It is situated at an altitude of 1700mts above sea level surrounded with thick oak and blue pine forests in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state. There are amazing mountain views of the Western Himalayas from a number of vantage pints like Snow View and Tiffin Top. Another well known landmark is the Karnva Ashram, 14 km away, where Shakuntala is said to have given birth to Raja Bharat, the forefather of the nation. The story of Shakuntala and Dushyant has been immortalized by the poet Kalidasa in his epic, Shakuntalam. Presently, Lansdowne has the command office of the Garhwal Rifles division of the Indian Army. The buildings and churches of Lansdowne built during British India dates you back to pre independence period.
